Description

The EXCAL Fast-flow tube-delivery teat was the fore-runner of all modern calfeteria teats for group feeding of large numbers of calves. Invented by Mrs Nan Duffy, the Fast-flow internal shape creates a pump-like effect as the calf bites it. The first biting action closes the base end of the teat, and further mouth closure forces milk out through the tip. Almost the same effects as when the calf is suckling naturally. The Fast-flow calf teat takes standard 11mm o.d. plastic tubing, and should be mounted at the most ideal suckling height for the calves being reared, with the delivery tubing descending into the milk container. EXCAL non-return valves should be used at the bottom of the milk tubes to prevent back-flow. The EXCAL Fast-flow teat is fitted into a 22mm diameter drilled hole, in any plastic or metal container or remote feeding panel. Fast-Flow
Teats – Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is a Fast-Flow teat?
A: A Fast-Flow teat is designed with a crosscut slit that allows milk to flow
easily when calves suck. It is ideal for calfeteria-style feeding systems where
milk is drawn up through tubes using non-return valves.

Q: Why would the teat leak?
A: Fast-Flow teats are not designed to hold pressure in the tip. If there is
pressure behind the teat (such as from a pressurised manifold or gravity feed),
milk may leak through the slit.

Q: What type of feeding setup should I use
Fast-Flow teats in?

A: Use Fast-Flow teats in calfeteria or gravity-free systems with tube and
non-return valves. These setups ensure milk is only delivered during the calf’s
sucking action, preventing leaks.

Q: Can I use Fast-Flow teats in a pressurised
feeder?

A: No. Fast-Flow teats are not suitable for pressurised systems or direct
manifold setups, as the pressure forces milk through the slit and causes
leaking.

Q: What are the benefits of Fast-Flow teats?
A:

  • Easy
milk flow encourages young calves to drink quickly.
  • Suitable
for large calf groups in calfeteria systems.
  • Simple
crosscut slit design with minimal resistance.

Q: How do Fast-Flow teats compare to regular
teats?

A: Regular teats are designed with tension at the tip to prevent leaks under
pressure. Fast-Flow teats, by contrast, prioritise free milk flow and are only
effective in non-pressurised systems.

Q: How do I know if Fast-Flow teats are right
for me?

A: Choose Fast-Flow teats if you are running calfeteria feeding systems with
non-return valves. If you use manifold or pressurised systems, select a
standard teat instead to avoid leaks.

Fast-Flow
Teats – Usage Tips

Do:

  • Use in
calfeteria systems with tube and non-return valves.
  • Ensure
milk is drawn to the teat only when calves suck.
  • Choose
Fast-Flow for large calf groups where quick milk intake is needed.

Don’t:

  • Don’t
    use in pressurised manifolds.
  • Don’t
connect directly to systems where pressure pushes milk through the teat.
  • Don’t
expect the slit to self-seal under pressure — leaking will occur.
